Porsche emissions: 60,000 Macans as well as Cayennes recalled
Porsche is recalling nearly 60,000 diesel SUVs across Europe at the request of German authorities over worries they might emit less nitrogen oxide (NOx) during lab testing compared to on-road assessments.
The recall impacts the 3.0-litre V6 diesel Macan as well as 4.2-litre V8 diesel Cayenne, which both function engines established by Audi.

Germany’s federal motor authority (KBA) made the request after the discovery of “inadmissible defeat devices”, which might cause boosted NOx emissions during on-road driving compared to lab tests.
A Porsche spokesperson explained that the business had “received recall notices from the German federal motor deliver Authority (KBA) affecting Cayenne 4.2-litre V8 diesel as well as Macan 3.0-litre V6 diesel vehicles”, adding it had been in discussions with the KBA over the problems considering that March this year.
While Porsche was quick to state it “accepts full obligation towards its customers”, it explained it “does not establish or manufacture diesel engines itself”.
Owners of impacted automobiles will be contacted by Porsche dealers, as well as “a technical option in the type of a software application update” will be used to their cars and trucks for complimentary during a “short workshop visit”.
Porsche does not currently offer any type of diesel designs to UK buyers. A decline in sales triggered it to pull the plug on the Macan S diesel earlier this year, while neither the current Cayenne nor the Panamera is currently offered with a diesel engine.
In July last year, German authorities apparently discovered an emissions ‘defeat device’ in the the 3.0-litre diesel Porsche Cayenne, leading to a recall of 22,000 cars.
At the time, German deliver priest Alexander Dobrindt stated authorities would buy Porsche to problem an obligatory recall for 22,000 Cayennes registered across Europe.
The gadget was discovered after tests brought out by deliver authorities in Germany. A ‘warm-up strategy’ was triggered when cars and trucks were being tested, limiting emissions of nitrogen oxide. Emissions were stated to be much higher when the cars and truck is on the road.
Dobrindt said: “There is no explanation as to why this software application is in this car.” The priest went on to describe that since the Cayenne includes a contemporary emissions system that’s capable of satisfying the emissions standards, Porsche must be able to create a customized software application system quickly.
